Is it real?
Is it possible?
Yes, but is it probable?
Some say they've achieved it
But come on you have to admit
How can you pursue perfection
While you lack the connection
Required for a faultless life
That is otherwise riddled with strife
To self-publish my poem, I thought of posting it on social media like everybody else, but I thought that i would give people a break as they already had news feeds full self-published poems. Therefore, I thought I would take a more personal approach and try to give my poem to people I know will actually read it and give me feedback. I thought of going up to their doors, or approaching them around campus, but i felt like that would be intrusive and they could be busy or in a hurry. Hence, I decided to put my poem into their mailboxes so they could read them at their leisure.
When i got to the neighborhood mailboxes, i realized that many of the mailboxes had a little sticker saying "No junk mail please." However, I hoped for the best that they would not perceive my poem as junk and I sneaked it in through the side. With that done, i had targeted about 30 family households with an average 3 people per home which sums up to about 90 people. However, I wanted to target at least 100 people and not everyone in each household would read the poem that was on a little piece of paper. I then decided i should go to a different area with people I am not as familiar with to prop my poem under their wiper blade in hopes that they would see it sooner or later. i did this to about 20 vehicles and luckily experienced no set off of alarms.
I feel like this was an effective way to publish my poem and receive feedback from it as i left my name on the bottom of the poem for those that know me in my neighborhood so they can approach me anytime and give me some feedback; whether it be good or bad.
